The Weekly Recap (239): Technology Hates Me

Weekly Recap

Nereyda’s Recap:

It’s just me this week since Nick is getting ready for her trip back home. My week was equal parts lazy and busy. I don’t know what it is about computers but I swear they hate me. I had a lot of issues with my old computer last year and it finally gave out on me last Summer to the point where I could barely use it. I ended up buying a new laptop and I haven’t even had it for a year and now this one isn’t working. My charger is working cause it lights up but my laptop says it doesn’t recognize the power source. Hopefully it’s an easy and affordable fix but I decided to try to use my old computer again and it’s now working perfectly fine. I started transferring all my audiobooks to my hard-drive since it was a big file (over 300 gigs) and one thing led to another and I stumbled upon old pictures. There are pictures of when my sister and I were kids, old parties and when my kids were babies and even all my old vacation pictures and videos. I spent most of the week going through them all, separating them into folders and uploading them into my Google Drive. I even found some pictures and videos of my boyfriend’s sister who passed away 10 years ago, so that was bittersweet to be able to show them to his family so they could hear her voice again…

My neighbor and I got my other neighbor to go with us to cardio kickboxing class and we had a blast. I go alone sometimes but it’s always nice going with other people so we can suffer together and cry together at the end when our muscles feels like jelly and parts of our bodies hurt that we weren’t even aware of. I’m in the middle of my Riverdale binge and it’s pretty entertaining. Not the best but it’s definitely addicting. I can only watch about one episode per day cause my wi-fi still sucks. I got some pretty good books last week that sound really good but I didn’t get to read much since I spent most of my time re-setting up my old computers and uploading old pictures. I did finally get a chance to upload new audiobooks to my phone so I have some good ones to listen to in the next few weeks. I did finally get a chance to go through my blog feed this past week and to finally reply back to comments. I definitely missed visiting blogs so I need to make it a point not to go so long between visits again. I may go camping this weekend if I can find a last-minute campsite open, but either way, I always look forward to my weekends. Nick will be back for the recap next Sunday, hopefully she has more daddy books to share with us 😉
Hope everyone had a great week!

You do have some great books. That’s terrible that your computer is giving you problems and it’s not a year old. I worry about that as I recently bought a new one and it’s a different brand for me. You sound very busy and fit. LOL

    My Sunday Post

    • Luckily I have my old computer so it’s not too bad, mostly annoying. I have to keep busy or else I get lazy 🙂

  • That stinks about the computer. I always had really crappy luck with them until I got my Mac. This thing hasn’t had a problem in 2 1/2 years (knock on wood). You look like you got a bunch of great audios!! Hope you enjoy them and have a great week!

    • My boyfriend tells me to get a Mac alll the time (he’s had one for over 7 years) but I just can’t get used to them. I used them for a few weeks last year when my old computer messed up and I hated it. Same reason why I don’t have iphones…

  • Jasprit

I had a lot of issues with my latest laptop too, the other day I typed up two reviews and then it completely froze on me, I was worried that I’d lost my reviews, but luckily it came back on! I also can’t wait to read My Roomate’s Girl and Dating You Hating You, I look froward to seeing how you get on with them! I binge watched Riverdale in just a few days, its definitely addictive! I hope you have a great week! 🙂

    • I hope both those books turn out great too! I hope to finish Riverdale this week.

  • Ugh, those kinds of problems. I hope you can solve it soon! If we lived close, I’d recommend this awesome service, but the only problem is that it’s a whole ocean and half a world away from you 😀 haha!
However, my phone broke like that last week (okay now, but I had a scare). I managed to scavenge all my photos and files out of it… But at moments like that you realize how frail your digital memories really are.

    • I shattered my phone a few months ago and now my up volume doesn’t work… see, technology hates me! I like to transfer my pictures to my hard drive every few months.

      • That’s smart practice. I should really do this too, but I’m always like “I’ll do that tomorrow”, and you know where that gets you.

  • Grace Fonseca

I often feel that way when Technology doesn’t want to work with us.

    Grace @ Books of Love

  • Jessica @ a GREAT read

Technology and I often argue. I can’t say I always win, but the technology definitely gets called some colorful names! Lol!

Nice new reads too! Pretty much all new to me ones. Hope you enjoy them all!

    Here’s my STS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • I think I just don’t have the patience to deal with it anymore. I used to try to tinker with my computer when something was wrong but now I just can’t bother.

  • Ugh, technology issues suck! I hope everything rights itself for you and that you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to fix your new laptop problems.

You’ve got some really great books to read. I’m jealous!

    Happy reading, Nereyda!

    • Since my old computer is working perfectly fine (and it’s a better computer than my laptop) I just ignored it for now since I don’t need the laptop anyway. Hopefully I can get it to work eventually. Maybe if I ignore it for a year it will work again too 🙂

  • I just posted my review for Trusting You and Other Lies. I hope you enjoy it a little more than I did. I felt really “meh” about it. lol! Mister Hockey sounds like one I would really love. I love sports romances. Hope you have a great week, and happy reading!

    • I just finished it, it was cute but nothing special… I hope Mister Hockey is much better, I love hockey books!

  • I’m on my third laptop already in the last 12 months, I feel this deeply. My first one needed a new plug in point but was told by several repairers that they would need to replace the entire motherboard which is ridiculous. So bought a new laptop. Only that laptop was like a turtle. I couldn’t do more than one thing at a time. For Christmas my husband bought me an expensive Acer then which is like an entry level gaming laptop and it’s so worth the money. It’s lightening quick and perfect for doing multiple tasks at once.

I can’t wait to see your review for Words in Deep Blue. I loved that book. And Lord of Shadows! I’m waiting with bated breath Nere <3 <3

    • Fingers crossed that this laptop lasts you forever Kelly! Oh man, Lord of Shadows, I feel like I need a relisten of book one to prepare.

  • You are not alone, technology has been an absolute bitch to me this year. I’ve had to splurge on a new laptop but my old one has decided it wants to work again. I had the same issue with the charger with my old laptop but every now and again it’d work.

I completely forgot about Lord of Shadows. I must admit the Shadowhunter’s world has never grabbed my attention. I enjoyed TMI but wasn’t blown away by and I’ve mostly forgot about the other series set in that world.

    • I never even finished the TMI or her other one series but this one intrigued me. Hopefully I can finish this series!

  • Technology sucks, I know. My laptop has seen better days it’s reaching it’s 4th birthday and it’s definitely starting to get the point where I question why I use it as it gets really slow from time to time. I do find stuff had a tendency to surprise you. You write it off as broke and then someone else uses it and it’s fixed. That’s what happened with my old iPod and I’m still not over being annoyed about it since I went and bought a new one to replace it.

Sounds like you had a good week. I know exercising with others tends to be a lot more fun. It just helps to have someone else there to laugh and cry with when you’re working out. Especially when it’s a tough class.

Hope you have a good week.

    • I had a laptop a few years ago that lasted me a few years. Since then I feel like my new computers barely last me 2 years which sucks since they are quite pricey. And working out with other is great for accountability. My friend and I always tell each other our workouts for the day and how much water we’e drank. It always reminds us to drink more water and when I hear that she already did her workout it gets my ass into gear and gives me motivation to do my workouts too.

  • I remember you posting about your computer last year. (Were you the one that said you had to sit on like a potty seat thing for kids to use your computer or something like that?)
Nereyda, I so want to go camping with you!
Yay for more people joining in on the cardio kickboxing class! It’s definitely better when you go with other people 🙂
I hope you have a good week!

    • Yep, that was me that broke the potty! I didn’t end up going camping cause we couldn’t find a campsite but I’m definitely going after I come back from vacation.

  • Bleh, your computer woes sound nightmarish! Normally I’m pretty lucky with technology, but when I was in undergrad my laptop (the only computer I had at the time) died the day before a major assignment was due and I *almost* couldn’t get it back online in time. Lesson learned about backing things up the cloud, haha.

I used to be really into Cassandra Clare’s books but then I never ended up finishing TMI and haven’t even started the new series. Hopefully it’s a good listen!

    • That happened to me too, my charger was giving out right as I was putting the finishing touches of my portfolio. I had the charger cord taped to the carpet exactly the ONLY way it would charge and barely finished emailing my files to my teacher right before it died forever.

I never finished TMI and wasn’t a fan of the Infernal Devices books but this first book was good.
