Jacqueline: As an adult woman--and the vice president of a marketing firm--I shouldn't be waiting by my office window to ogle the mystery man who jogs by every morning at 11:45. Sure, he's a gorgeous, perfect specimen of the human race, but I can't bring myself to hit on a total stranger.

However, my best friend-slash-colleague Vince Carson thinks I should do more than talk to the guy. In fact, he's borderline obsessive about "getting me laid." (His words.) But the more time we spend together, the more it's clear: The one I'm falling for is Vince.

Vince: Jackie Butler's got it bad for some pompous, over-pumped A-hole who struts his stuff past her window. That doesn't bother me. I know she deserves nice things. What does bother me is that she friend-zoned me big-time last year, so I can't ask her out myself.

But what if I set her up with Mr. Steroids? Then, when he breaks her heart, I can swoop in and save her like the nice guy I am. Everything's going according to plan . . . until we share a ridiculously epic kiss. And suddenly anything is possible.

I’m a big believer in DNF a book that isn’t working for you. Granted, sometimes I give up on books for silly or random reasons (like when kid or secret pregnancy pops up, no thanks) or if it takes me too long to read a book. I get kind of bored so I just want to move on to something more. If you read my weekly recaps the last few weeks, then you probably know how long it took me to read this book. I’m a little bit embarrassed to admit that it probably took me about a month to finish this book, sorry I’m a slow reader now and read about 20% a week. Normally, I would have DNF this book by week 2 and moved on to something else, but dammit, this book was actually really good so I was determined to finish it. It was so gratifying to finally get to that 100% mark on my kindle and it was even better because I actually enjoyed the book.

This book was fun and entertain and sexy. We have Vince and Jacqueline who not only are very good friends but they are also coworkers and co-vice presidents of a marketing firm and they also happen to be part of the divorced group. Jacqueline’s ex husband cheated on her and Vince’s ex-wife just decided that he wasn’t good enough for her after his business failed. Needless to say, they both have trust and relationship issues. Luckily for them, they’ve found great platonic comfort in each other and they’ve been able to bond over their heartbreak and form a really great friendship. The kind of ‘lets stay home on weekends and watch movies and each take out’ kind of friendship. Vince starts having more than friendly like feelings towards Jacqueline but doesn’t want to be her rebound romance. In his mind, it makes perfect sense to encourage Jackie to date the hot jogger she’s been crushing on lately, have her fling and rebound romance and when he breaks her heart he can swoop in. I don’t know how Vince though this could ever be a smart idea… men. As soon as things start to get a little hot between Jackie and the jogger, Vince knows he has to show his cards if he doesn’t want to risk losing Jackie before he even got a chance with her.

There were some moments in the book that were a little silly. Honestly, Vince had some whack ass ideas sometimes that had me questioning how smart he was. Like pretending to be her ‘dating coach’ to show Jackie how to seduce jogger dude. But at the end of the day, I just had fun reading this book and that’s really all I ask for when it comes to books. I want to be entertained and it doesn’t hurt to have some great chemistry and romance along the way. Other than the romance, I really liked Davis, Vince’s surly best friend and I’m really happy to see that he’s getting his own book next. This is my first book by Jessica Lemon and I honestly read this because Lauren Layne is always mentioning her books and well because it sounded good. Although it took me an eternity to get through this, I’m so glad I finally finished it!

  • oh I am glad that you ended up really enjoying this one, even if it took so long to finish. Its crazy how that works right? Right now I have one like that, its a re read, but a book I haven’t read in 10 years, and I just haven’t been in the right mood for it. Although this author, I really like, but sometimes I have a hard time keeping interest. Just doesn’t grab me as much as I want her writing to, but the stories are so solid and real that I keep with it.

    • I really need a book to catch my attention within the first 10% or it’s hard for me to keep going. This one did which is why I kept pushing to finish it.

  • I’ve read a couple of her books and liked them. Glad this turned into a win.

    • I’m not really interested in her billionaire (or millionaire books) but some of her other series sound good.

      • You should try Return of the Bad Boy. I’m not a fan of the title because it’s kind of misleading, but it’s REALLY good. There is a child in it though. 😄

        • Yikes…I hate kids in books although there have been a few that I’ve liked.

  • A Novel Glimpse

The title to this post scared me. I have this book waiting to be read and I’m a Jessica Lemmon fan. I’m glad it turned out to be a good one!

  • Even though it took a while I am glad you enjoyed this!! Great review!

  • I’m reading this book next and I’m looking forward to it. I’m glad that you finished it and reviewed it. It sounds like a book I’ll enjoy so I’m happy. Thanks for the review, Nereyda!

  • Glad to see this book was worth powering through for you. It does sound like an interesting read, love the sound of the friendly feelings progressing even if Vince was an utter idiot with his logic. This sounds like a book I might enjoy I’ll be adding to my TBR. Great review.

    • Despite how long it took me to read this, I liked it quite a bit. It was fun 🙂

  • Haha, I saw that you almost DNF’d this one and then gave it 4 stars, and I was like “dang, that was a quick turnaround!”

Despite it all, it’s good to see you still enjoyed this one Nereyda. Fun romances that are quick, light-hearted, and fluffy are pretty much my faves, and this one seems to be spot on. Awesome review!

    – Aila One Way Or An Author

  • I get the feeling that the story was unnecessarily long. What with all the silly antics the characters got up to. Still sounds like you had fun with it, though.

    • Sadly, it wasn’t even a long book at all! I just read slooooow 🙂

  • This sounds a bit over the top and nutty, but in a good way. Vince clearly has some messed up schemes (what is going through his mind?!) but they sound entertaining. Whenever friends go from eating takeout and chilling at home on the weekends to frantically making out in a story, I’m here for it! 😂

    • They had such a great friendship so it was really good seeing them take it further 🙂
