The most romantic place she never wanted to be . . .

Pepper Knight moved to Everland, Georgia, as step one in her plan for a successful legal career. But after this big-city gal's plans go awry, going home with her tail between her legs isn't an option. So when the town vet-and her sexy new neighbor-offers Pepper a temporary dog-walking job, she jumps at the chance. No one needs to know that man's best friend is her worst nightmare . . . or that Everland's hot animal whisperer leaves her panting.

The last thing Rhett Valentine wants is to be the center of small-town gossip. After his first love left him at the altar, he's been there, done that. These days, life is simple, just the way he likes it. But sultry southern nights get complicated once sparks fly between him and the knockout next door. When she proposes a sexy, secret fling-all the deliciousness and none of the prying neighbors-it seems too good to be true. And it is. Because Pepper's determined to leave Love Street, and when she goes, she just might take his heart with her . . .

I’m a huge fan of Lia Riley and when she announced a new series, I may or may not have done a happy dance. There’s something about her writing and her characters that I adore, and I knew I was in for a treat from the very first page of It Happened on Love Street. It’s very much a signature Lia Riley book, and I enjoyed every moment of it.

Lia Riley’s characters are always charming and endearing, and nothing is different here. Pepper has just moved to a small town in Georgia only to discover that her position has been muddled with, so somehow she finds herself walking dogs. The only problem is that she’s afraid of dogs (I may have gasped a little when she first mentioned it!). I liked Pepper a lot. She’s a sweetheart and so completely loyal to her baby sister. Her confusion about what to do with her life rang very true to me. She really finds herself in It Happened on Love Street and though it takes her some time, she finally learns how to put herself first from time to time. Her love interest, Rhett, completely swept me off my feet. He’s a vet (can you say swoony??), a gentleman and truly a very appealing hero. He also happens to wear glasses, which oof, I find unbearably attractive.

The romance between the two was another aspect I liked a lot about It Happened on Love Street. The two of them shared a potent chemistry, and I loved watching the two slowly get together and connect on an emotional level. Their romance was the perfect combination of sweet, cuddly and sexy, which Lia Riley sure knows how to do well. I do admit that I would have liked to see more scenes of Rhett and Pepper together. There were times I felt like they were secondary to the rest of the plot, but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment all that much because the two of them were so good together. Besides the romance, I also liked the small-town setting. There are plenty of nosy neighbors, drama and hilarity that ensued in Everland. Not to forget, I also loved how many puppies were featured here. Honestly, any time a book has dogs in them, I’m easily a goner.

It Happened on Love Street was a delightful romance that had me smiling and laughing all throughout. I’m excited that Lia Riley is back with a new series. If you haven’t read her books yet, I highly recommend them, especially if you’re a fan of contemporary romance.

  • oh lovely review, the first one I have read about this book. I am a fan of Lia Riley and she does a fantastic job writing her characters. And I love that her heroine has a fear of dogs. ( I do too since I had a really bad attack when I was a kid and almost died) so I get that. Definitely super stoked to read this one. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one darling.

This sounds like such a lovely read. I’ve never read anything by her before and I am not sure if this one is for me. Thank you for the review Nick, maybe I will try it out soon.

  • I really need to read Lia Riley. I own the first book in her last series. It sounds like her writing is something I will really enjoy. Great review!!

Small town settings are one of my favorites, especially in this genre Nick. I think I’ll have to add this one to my pile, I love these type of reads in the summer months.

  • I have enjoyed this author. I saw this for an audio review and it sounds so delightful. I love small-town romances.

Love small town romance and this sounds great! I still haven’t read anything by this author but I may have to start with this one! Great review Nick!

  • Ahh, I’m so excited to read this. I loved her series with the brothers. I can’t remember the series name right now. Poor Pepper being afraid of dogs, though. Although I grew up with dogs. And I used to be really afraid of cats. 🙂

  • Pups! I want to read a romance with pups. Lia Riley isn’t an author I’ve heard much about before now, but all the buzz around It Happened on Love Street is positive and that has me excited. Small town settings are super cute, especially ones with nosy neighbours. They’re good dogs, Brent!!

  • I love small town romances and
this sounds lovely. I can’t remember any romances where hero wears glasses, I
don’t think there are a lot of them out there. Wonderful review, Nick!

  • Hmmm, I think it was you who I first saw review a Lia Riley book. Possibly? I’m so glad you liked this new book! The vet sounds pretty hot – I’ve discovered that I also like guys with glasses. Especially the thick frames with deep colors. Is that weird? I’m weird. It’s fine. 😀 I’m actually not a pet person! I don’t mind dogs, as long as they are not mine. I loooove puppies. It’s cute that dogs are such a big part of the story. And the romance sounds pretty great! I’m happy that this book did not disappoint you. 😀 Fantastic review, Nick!

    Have a great weekend. =)

  • Why have I not started reading this yet? I am very excited it’s say on my Kindle and I think it’s going to be the first book of next week for me. I am totally with you about being a sucker for a book with dogs in it. I don’t know what it is but I’m a goner every time. I thought it was just me! This sounds like a cute read and a brilliant start to a new series.

  • Ugh, Rhett sounds like the absolute cutest. GUYS WITH GLASSES ARE AMAZING OKAY. (Somehow I find them all the more sexy with glasses but that’s just me lol). I also love how it deals with puppies (yay!) and finding yourself (yay!). I haven’t picked up a Lia Riley book, but from what you’ve reviewed, it really sounds like I need to pick one up soon. 😀 Thanks for the awesome review!
