2017 Romance Books You Should Add To Your TBR

Posted January 9, 2017 by Nick/ 53 Comments

Hi everyone!

Last year, I made a list of some of my most anticipated YA releases out this year and I loved it. Today, I’m here to share part two of that post, featuring all the romance books I’m excited for. Now, this list is just a small look into my most anticipated list because a lot of them don’t have covers yet. So keep that in mind as you scroll through the post. I have them in 3 categories, historical, contemporary and suspense, so there’s something for everyone.

Let’s get started!

Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas

This is probably my most anticipated romance book of the year. Most of you probably know how obsessed I am with Lisa Kleypas. When she returned to historical romance last year, I was so happy. When she announced that this book would feature the son of one of my favorite couple of hers, I was beyond ecstatic. I screamed and squealed and was basically, very very vocal. Lisa Kleypas has also shared an excerpt and comments about the book and the heroine here, Pandora, has ADHD. I am very curious to see how that’s going to fit in an era that didn’t really believe in mental illness conditions.

The Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLean

I have to admit, even though I love Sarah MacLean, this series just isn’t my favorite. However, I am eager to pick up The Day of the Duchess because it features a hero who was atrocious to his wife. I am ready for some real groveling on his part. I’m such a sucker for heroes who have to work to gain back their lady loves.

Blame It on the Duke by Lenora Bell

Lenora Bell was one of my favorite historical romance discoveries last year. She writes HR that are smart, sexy and very romantic. I’m excited to see how her third novel goes for me. I already loved Alice from the previous book and her desire to travel, so I know I’m in for a great read.

The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare

Honestly, I don’t even need to know what a book is about if it has Tessa Dare’s name on the cover. She has consistently written books that are clever, funny and so passionate. I’m so excited that she’s starting a new series in 2017 and I just can’t wait to get my grabby hands on it. 🙂

It Happend On Love Street by Lia Riley

Lia Riley writes fantastic contemporary romance books. I especially loved her Brightwater series, so I’m thrilled that she’s returning to a small-town romance with It Happened on Love Street. It sounds like it’s going to be a cute series, and I’m ridiculously excited for it.

Stay by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy

Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy are the dream writing-duo! I have adored every book that this duo has written, and I have to say Stay might be one of my most anticipated books from them because Erricson!! This guy really needs his HEA and I can’t wait for him to find it.

I Knew You Were Trouble by Lauren Layne

If you’re a regular visitor of our blog, you know how much we love Lauren Layne and her Oxford & Stiletto series. I was ready to say goodbye to one of my favorite fictional gang of friends with Someone Like You, but Lauren Layne totally surprised us in a good way when she announced I Knew You Were Trouble. We met Nick and Taylor in Someone Like You and guys, they hate each other! So you know you’re in for some sexy hate-to-love. I cannot wait!

Walk of Shame by Lauren Layne

Yes! It’s another Lauren Layne! Actually, she has 7 NEW BOOKS out in 2017, so I’m looking forward to reading them all, but they don’t have covers yet. Anyways, this one sounds like it’s going to be a really fun rom-com type of book with lots of banter, which is exactly what LL is awesome at.

Forbidden Promises by Katee Robert

NEED! NEED! NEED! I am in LOVE with this series by Katee Robert and ugh she has been teasing Forbidden Promises on her Facebook group, and waiting has been SO HARD. I am already hopelessly in love with Jude and ready to have his babies, so I really really need this book in my life.

Midnight Target by Elle Kennedy

Reading Midnight Target is going to be so bittersweet because it’s the last book of this addicting series and I am not ready to say bye to my babies. I have no doubt though that Elle Kennedy will deliver with a bang (and bangs – lol im sorry I don’t know why I’m coming across as so pervy) in this finale. And you know what’s even more awesome? There will be 2 romances! Yes, you read that right! And one of them is a M/M that I have been waiting for since FOREVER.

Are any of these books on your TBR? What are some romance books you can’t wait to read this year?

  • I am 100% on board with many of these! Though book #5 of the O’Malleys series should be on here (but it has no *official* cover yet so… maybe not just yet). Highland Hellion and Highland Spitfire though! There should be a category for Scottish romances alone. 😀 Also I personally am dyyyyyying to get my hands on Duke of Desire by Elizabeth Hoyt. Nudge NUDGE. 😉 Great post, Nick!

Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!

    • Yeah I didn’t put those because no covers yet! I hope you get that Hoyt book soon! Thanks! 🙂

  • Gosh you have so many great ones here!! I have been meaning to pick up a Lia Riley book. I am excited for anything Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen. I love those two!! Great list!!

    • You would really love Lia Riley’s books!
And yes! This one is the companion series to Him & US and I know you loved Him! 🙂

  • neabarabea

OMG My TBR pile has just become even bigger! Thank you Nick for the awesome recommendations! Always a pleasure reading you 🙂 🙂 😀 😀 😀

    • Always happy to increase friends’ TBR piles! 🙂

  • As much as I love romance, and as much as I love how she openly promotes the genre, and as much as I love how knowledgeable she is on the historical romance genre, I just don’t love Sarah MacLean’s books. I’m not sure what it is, but I almost always end up frustrated. I’ve read 9 Rules, 10 Ways, and A Rogue By Any Other Name. My favorite was 10 Ways, but I hated A Rogue by Any Other Name. I thought the hero was a whiny little jerk who needed to grow up and not think about his “woes” all the time.

I also agree with Alyssa, here, you have to check out Elizabeth Hoyt. I have only read a couple of her books, but they are amazing. And they aren’t set in the Regency! They are set in the 1700s which is super fun. I adored Dearest Rogue. The heroine is blind, and wonderful, and the hero is wonderful, but not from a wealthy family, and it just made my heart sigh in happiness.

    • Yeah I can understand. She writes very conflicting heroes for me, but I always wind up loving them.
I have a few of her books and I think Dearest Rogue is one of them because of your recommendation. 🙂

  • kindlemom1

So many of these I need to add but for whatever reason, I’ve been struggling big time with this genre and I don’t even know why, it use to be one of my favorites. I need to get back on track with it. Thanks for all the good recommendations, maybe one of them will pull me out of my romance funk?

    • Aww, I’m sorry to hear that, Ali. I hope you find some good romances to get you over the genre slump. 🙂

  • Oh…oh my. *bookmarks page*

Lenora Bell is a new to me author, and I’m very excited to dive into her backlist to see what she’s got to offer. Obviously I’m also dying for the new Tessa Dare, even though I still haven’t read Do You Want to Start a Scandal…I’m still (im)patiently waiting for my copy to become available at the library!

OMG sexy hate to love! YES. I Knew You Were Trouble sounds like my cuppa tea. But really, LL has 7 books out this year? Wtf, is she even human??

    • Lenora only has two books out as of now, so you can easily catch up! Oh you have to read Do You Want to Start a Scandal! I so love that book. HURRY UP, LIBRARY!
I love that LL writes so many books in a year! She spoils her fan completely!!

  • I honestly do not have much experience in romance, but you’re like the sixth person to speak so highly of Tessa Dare’s talents! Maybe 2017 will have to be the year I break into the genre. 🙂

    • Give the genre a try for sure! There are some terrific romance books out there.

  • That cover for Devil in Spring!! It’s so gorgeous! I’ll admit most of these are new-to-me authors, but I’m adding this one to my TBR immediately! Great list!

    Tracy @ Cornerfolds

    • I couldn’t stop staring at the cover when they released it. It’s so pretty! Glad you could find some authors to add to your list, Tracy. 🙂

  • Nick, you do know I relly don’t need anymore romance on my TBR list, right? That being said I am adding all of these immediately and will wait anxiously for their release. I didn’t even know there were new Tessa Dare and Sarah MacLean books coming out! I am so excited, I’ve obviously been a bad reader not keeping better track of new releases. And you just know I’ll be reading any and all Lauren Layen I can get my hands on because I have been sucked in by my love for her. I didn’t know you liked Katee Roberts, though, I’ve had my eye on a couple of her books because the first book in this series sounded interesting and then I’ve never bought it because I was unsure. You just know I’m going to go buy it now. Never have too much romance and that gift card is just waiting to be spent. Also, I have read nothing by Lisa Kleypas or Lenora Bell but you just know I’m going to be buying these.

My purse does not thank you but I do.

    • Can you really have too many romance books on your TBR though? 😉
Ha! I stalk my favorite authors like a creeper online on their websites and their facebook, so I’m usually up to date with releases. I like some of Katee Roberts. Especially this series.
And oh man! I saw you got a Lisa Kleypas in your haul this week, but I really need you to go back and read her Wallflower and Hathaway books. They are the best historical romances out there.

      • I’m working on the premise that you obviously can’t, but I know some may disagree.

And I would be a creepy stalker too but I just don’t have the time. I’m too busy Googling things and procrastinating writing blog posts and responding to blog comments (because my brain doesn’t register that if a spend a little time often doing that then I want have to spend half a day doing it once a week).

And I know, I keep looking and thinking about it and yet I’ve not invested in Kleypas’s older series. I am going to do it and I will work my way through them. It’s on that long list of books I need to read. I should really start reading them instead of talking about it. Next trip to the library they will be borrowed.

  • I just havent’ looked that far ahead as far as books for 2017 go. I can’t think of much that I am jazzed about. Romance is so hit or miss for me so I will watch your reviews and see what works.

    • That sucks that romance hasn’t been working too well for you, Heidi. 🙁

  • I’ve been fussy with my reading, especially in the romance department, so I can’t think of any at this point that I’m truly excited for. But I do love a good Tessa Dare book. <3

    • Tessa Dare can never disappoint! 🙂

  • Yes, yes, yes to all of the books on this list. They’re all on my list for this year!

    • Right? The NEED for these books is intense!

  • Towards the end of December, I went on a Lauren Layne bender because you and Nereyda talked non stop about her books! Well, I finished the Oxford series and her Stiletto series in no time! They were both addicting. Thanks for the rec!

    • Wohoo! We’re good with pimping out LL books. 🙂

  • My TBR list just exploded, lol. I’m trying to get back to more romance so this is perfect for me as you read some terrific romances. Thanks, Nick 🙂

    • Haha! That does not sound like a bad explosion! 😉 I hope you find some good books here, Kim.

  • oh yes so many great ones I am looking forward to as well. I had no clue about Lia Riley’s book though, so now I am super excited for that one.

I can’t wait for Devil In Spring, and I always like it when authors introduce mental illness in HR. And I like that the hero is Sebastian and Evie’s son. Very cool. Have you read the excerpt that Kleypas shared?

I am like you with Katee Roberts, I am hooked on her latest series and I am i love with this family. I can’t wait for Forbidden Promises as well.

    • YES! She has a new series out next year from Forever! Really excited to see something new from her.

Oh man! Devil in Spring!! You and I should read that one together on release day. 🙂
I did! It just made me more impatient. LOL!

The O’Malleys is SO good! Have you seen her teasers in her facebook group? It’s going to be a HOT book!

  • The Book Disciple

I can’t wait for so many of these! Thanks to you I am totally hooked on that Lisa Kleypas series and can’t wait for the Sarah Maclean books either. I haven’t read that Elle Kennedy book but I think I have book one on my kindle…Hmmmmmm.
    Great List!

    • I’m so glad I introduced you to LK! Everyone needs LK! 🙂
Ooooh those EK books are so fun and super sexy!

  • Jazmen

First of all this post, lol. I definitely want to read some of those historical romances. After my great experiences with the what, one or two? I’ve read I’m definitely ready to dive into some more. Thanks for this!

    • Umm yes you NEED to read more HR! Especially from the authors I listed above! 😉

  • Charlie Anderson

Like Jazmen said, this post! LOL. A much needed crack-up amidst a very stressful day. 🙂

    • Happy to hear that, Charlie! 🙂

  • Ohhhh so many good books coming out this year. My book budget will suffer! And this is without counting in reading full backlists of new favorite authors (like 2016 was the year I discovered Lauren Layne and read 10 of her books LOL).

I can’t wait for MacLean’s Duchess book, I just know it’ll be amazing.

    • Same here! I’m already saving for some of these books.
I can’t tell you how excited I am for the MacLean book. That hero was so awful in the first book. I’m really curious how she’s going to redeem him.

  • I love this post Nick! I have been in a horrible book slump but I do love a good romance so I’ll be sure to check out these titles, I haven’t read or heard of most of these authors so you have me curious.

A great post! Sharon – Obsession with Books

    • Oh yay! I’m glad that you found some new authors here, Sharon! 🙂

  • I need to finish that Kleypas’ series!!! Well, finish Wallflower and start the spin-off series.
I need ALL of LL’s books! I’m so happy we are getting 7 books this year!! *squeals*
    Genesis @ Latte Nights Reviews

    • LOL yes lots of books for you to read before you read Devil in Spring! 😉
Yeah, she’s a writing machine! Love Story was kind of meh for me so I’m really hoping her others will be better.

  • Have you tried Kate Meader? You definitely should and Julie Ann Walker does romantic suspense really great too. Thanks for these recs 🙂

    • I have! I loved one of her books! I need to pick up more of her books.

  • Can’t wait for Stay by Bowen/Kennedy! Those two as a writing team are magic. Plus, any chance for a little more Jamie and Wes is a good thing. 🙂

    • Stay was very fun! And yes! There can never be too much Jamie & Wes. 🙂

  • Nick, if you like fun historical romances give Julia Quinn a try! Also waiting for Devil in Spring 🙂

    • Oh I love Julia Quinn! I need to read more from her.

  • What !? There is a last book in the Elle Kennedy Midnight series ? I Just started this series !

    • It is! 🙁 I’m so sad!

  • I recently read an ARC of Lauren Layne’s called Love Story. I enjoyed it-think it comes out in February. Besides that I’ve only read the first book of her Wedding Bell Blues series, but it sounds like I need to read some more by her! Thanks for the recommendations!

    • I’ve read Love Story. It wasn’t my favorite by the author. Book 2 in the Wedding Belle books was great! You should try it out. 🙂
