Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.
Today’s topic is the Top Ten “Gateway” Books/Authors In My Reading Journey
(so your list could be a mix of a books that got you into reading, an author that got you into reading a genre you never thought you’d read, or a book that brought you BACK into reading, etc.)
Sweet Valley University series by Francine Pascal
-OMG, this series! I’ve always loved reading but this series is what turned me into an obsessive book junkie. And I do mean obsessive. My parents used to drive me like 40 minutes almost every week to go digging through the shelves at Bookmans to see is they had any new books in the series. It got to a point where they already knew which books I had and which ones I was after. I love my parents! I think I used to have almost the entire collection of this series. I shipped Jess and Nick & Lila and Bruce something fierce!
Truly Madly Yours by Rachel Gibson
-This is still my favorite book ever! I think the last time I re-read it (last year) it was the 7th time that I’ve read this book. I love Rachel Gibson and to me, she is the queen of contemporary romance. (Except for her last book, but I’ve blocked it from my memory) I love this book as much or even more than I did the first time!
The Georgina Kincaid series by Richelle Mead
-This! This right here is my favorite series ever. I just finished my 3rd re-read of the series on Sunday and OMG, all the feels! This series definitely put my emotions through an emotional blender. I love all the characters and I already miss them. This right here is Urban Fantasy at it’s best!
Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer
-My sister let me borrow this book years ago and I thought she was a little nuts. A book about a killer? Even worse, this crazy Agnes chick falls for this hitman? But, I was curious. After I finished the book I politely told her there was no way I was giving it back to her. This baby was mine now! So yeah, blame my fascination on killer books on this book right here. I’ve read this one at least 5 or 6 times, the last time being last year. I’m definitely trying to fit it in again this year.
Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead
-Before this, I was reading mediocre vampire books. I didn’t get the hype. This series change it all. I fell in love with the complex world that Richelle set up for us. I loved kick ass Rose and her and Dimitri are all kinds of awesome. Richelle Mead was determined to break my heart with this series. This was a vampire eye opener for me.
Chicagoland Vampires series by Chloe Neill
-I’m totally cheating on this one, but who cares! This is another series that helped me discover that ‘holy shit, vampires are hot!’ And Ethan Sullivan? I don’t believe it can get any hotter than him. I adore this series!
The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer
-I’ve had these books on my TBR forever but sci-fi/fantasy (actually I’m not sure what genre this is) is not my favorite. I finally caved and binged on the audiobook series last month and I’m obsessed! Wow these books are amazing! I can’t wait for the final book!
Easy by Tammara Webber
-I read this wehn it was first released an an indie book because I was fascinated that it was set in college. I fell in love with this story and I totally blame it for my love of New Adult books. I miss new adult books like this…
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
-Fantasy books and I just don’t get along 98% of the time. It’s nothing personal, more like a ‘It’s not you, it’s me’ kind of thing. This book though changed that for me. I was hooked by this book (and series) and the characters. The fact that she’s an assassin might have something to do with why I like this series so much. It’s amazing though and has made me look for more fantasy books like this.
What a Boy Wants by Nyrae Dawn
-I had no idea what the hell an indie book was a few years ago. When I kept seeing this book pop up on my GR feed with a bajillion 5 star ratings, I decided to check it out. My first thought (after singing the Christina Agulera song in my head) was ‘what? why is this book $99?’ The temptation was too good to pass up and this book changed my view on published books. I’ve since discovered so many amazing self published authors because of this book.
There you have it! My top 10 Gamechanger books/series. What about you? Leave me your gamechanger books in the comments or leave me a link to your TTT post!
